A subtle toasted note, with a deep and rounded flavor
Add directly to your dishes for an effortless upgrade to your cooking.
This is how garlic granules should taste
The flavor of dried garlic is milder than fresh garlic but can be used in exactly the same way. Our organic dried garlic granules have a light toasted note, which gives them a deeper and rounder flavor profile.
How to use garlic granules
The dried granules are a convenient substitute for fresh garlic, with a ratio of 1 part granules to 4 parts fresh garlic, and they have a much longer shelf life. To use, simply rehydrate the granules in water or vinegar before adding them to your dressings or marinades. For an extra touch, sprinkle them directly on a piece of chicken and roast it in the oven to create a slightly caramelized garlic crust.
Dried or fresh garlic?
There are several situations where dried garlic granules may be the better choice over fresh garlic:
- Longer shelf life – Dried garlic granules last much longer without losing their flavor, while fresh garlic can spoil or begin to sprout.
- Even distribution in dishes – Granules blend smoothly into dry spice mixes, marinades, rubs, and soups without leaving small pieces like fresh garlic.
- Milder flavor – If you're looking for a more subtle garlic taste without the sharpness, granules are an ideal option.
- Convenience – No peeling, chopping, or pressing needed, saving you time in the kitchen.
- Avoid burnt garlic – Freshly chopped garlic can burn easily during cooking and turn bitter, while granules handle higher temperatures better.
- For seasoning blends – If you're preparing spice mixes for grilling or rubs, dried garlic is perfect as it doesn’t add extra moisture.
When is fresh garlic better?
Fresh garlic is the ideal choice when you're looking for a more intense flavor, a stronger aroma, or a juicier texture in sauces, dressings, or stir-fries.
Garlic from Southern Europe is simply the best
Most dried garlic on the market comes from China, even though garlic is widely grown in Europe. At Mill & Mortar, we focus on sourcing our ingredients as locally as possible to reduce transportation. That's why we've partnered with an Italian producer who grows the finest organic garlic in Southern Italy, in the region of Abruzzo.
