How to use Five Spice
Mix the spice blend with a little oil and brush it directly onto meat before frying or grilling. For the most intense flavor, let the meat marinate in the blend for a few hours before cooking.
Five Spice works beautifully as a rub but is also great in marinades (see below). It pairs well with poultry such as chicken, turkey, and especially duck, as well as pork, including roasts, tenderloin, ribs, and chops. You can also use the blend or marinade on roasted or baked root vegetables and other greens.
Make Your own Five Spice marinade
Ingredients:
• ½ cup soy sauce
• 2 tbsp neutral oil
• 1 tbsp rice vinegar
• 1 tbsp freshly grated ginger
• 3 cloves garlic, finely chopped (or 2 tsp garlic powder)
• 1 tsp Chinese Five Spice
• 1 tsp chili flakes
Mix all ingredients together.
